Pala Vista Park Project Update

Crosswalk painting at Civic Center and Pala Vista Drive was completed last week, as well as the installation of no parking signs and striping on the new lane northbound between Pala Vista Drive and Postal Way. The new lane was opened on February 1. The widening of this section is a major milestone for the adjacent park project.

City to Develop Action Plan Addressing Traffic Safety as Part of Federal Funding Opportunity

The City will use federal funding to develop a comprehensive citywide Safety Action Plan that will analyze crash data so that it can identify intersections and roadway segments that have traffic safety issues. As part of this effort, the City will gather community input which will be utilized in the overall analysis that will help guide prioritizing location-specific and systemwide solutions and mitigations to address the traffic issues identified in the plan.

Cannabis Equity Grant for Local Jurisdictions

The City has been awarded a $75,000 grant from the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development to procure a consultant that will lead community-driven research, assessment, and analysis addressing social equity in new cannabis industries. This assessment will inform and help shape a cannabis social equity program for cannabis cultivation and potential future types of cannabis businesses in the City of Vista. The next steps will be to identify a consultant firm and outline the assessment process.

Reminder: Homeless Resource Fair This Friday

The City, in partnership with the County of San Diego, will host a Homeless Resource Fair on Friday, February 10, from 9 am to 2 pm at the Vista Library parking lot, 700 Eucalyptus Avenue. The Fair will host the Live Well San Diego Bus, which offers various services including senior and child wellness services, public benefits information services, and military and veteran resources. The Fair will also host tables for the City’s Housing & Homeless Services Division; San Diego County’s Office of Homeless Solutions offering vaccinations for Hepatitis C, Monkey Pox, and Flu; PATH; Exodus Recovery, and the Humane Society. Portable restrooms will also be available on-site and Humanity Showers will offer free showers. GET MORE DETAILS

Harm Reduction Kits Available from the Vista Sheriff’s Department

The Sheriff’s Department is providing more access to lifesaving medication to the public in case of an opioid overdose by offering free Harm Reduction Kits. The kits are available from the Vista Sheriff’s Department (325 S. Melrose, Ste. 210). Kits are also available from a deputy on patrol. In either scenario, there are no questions asked. Deputies hope to reduce the risk of opioid overdose by giving the public access to Naloxone, a life-saving medication commonly referred to as Narcan. Naloxone is a medication that can help save lives by reversing the effect of an opioid overdose. A kit contains 2 doses of Naloxone nasal spray along with instructions for use and a resource card with contact information for those wishing to pursue treatment for substance use disorder.
