City Council Meets April 11

The City Council will hold a regular meeting on Tuesday, April 11, at 5:30 pm in Council Chambers on the second floor of the Civic Center. The public is welcome to attend and to participate. Topics of discussion include:

  • Public hearing of an appeal of a proposed smoke shop located at 1745 E. Vista Way, Suites 3-5;
  • Discussion items include department head hiring policy update; and expanding recreational youth activities (requested by Deputy Mayor Contreras).
  • The City Council will present a proclamation to the Vista Irrigation District in honor of its 100th anniversary in 2023; the Vista Irrigation District will also make a presentation to the Council.

Brengle Terrace Park Summer Day Camp Registration Begins April 11

Registration for Recreation’s Summer Day Camps at Brengle Terrace Park will begin at 9 am on Tuesday, April 11. There are two ways to register:

  • In person at Jim Porter Recreation Center, 1200 Vale Terrace Drive;
  • By phone at 760.643.5272.

The first 200 in-person registrations will receive a free kid’s meal to Raising Canes or Grand Slam Pizza.

Weekday camps are offered from June 12 through August 12 for preschool through the 8th grade. Recreation’s day camps offer an action-packed, varied, and exciting summer experience. Campers enjoy many activities, including but not limited to arts & crafts, sports, science, hikes, and water games. Five camps are designed by age and interest. Camps run weekly, and many of our campers enjoy all nine weeks. Camp includes no additional charge for breakfast, lunch, and weekly guest entertainers. Vista Library Hosts Teen Film Afternoon on April 13

Join the Vista Library for its bimonthly teen film afternoon program. Come and enjoy recent PG-13-rated films with your friends and peers. Pizza will be served. This event, for teens only, will be held on Thursday, April 13, 4 pm-6 pm at the Vista Library, 700 Eucalyptus Avenue. For more information, call 760.643.5100.

Earth Day Celebration at Alta Vista Botanical Gardens on April 22

Alta Vista Botanical Gardens, within Brengle Terrace Park, will host its annual Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 22, 9 am-3 pm. The public is invited to connect with nature and to go green at this free event. Festivities include a family fun walk, a scavenger hunt and garden explorations, live music, a plant sale, and over 30 vendors. Activities for young people include making collages, handling earthworms and compost, making macaroni necklaces and leather bracelets, painting “Earth Day Rocks!,” and the fun-filled children’s garden. Vista’s Baby in Bloom Offers BabyFest on April 22

BabyFest brings together companies selling the best products, local experts, and new and expecting families for a day of learning, product demonstrations, and a chance to win prizes and meet other parents. This event will be held on Saturday, April 22, at the Vista Optimist Club, 600 Optimist Way, Vista. GET MORE DETAILS

Vista Farmers Market Held Every Saturday

The Vista Farmers Market features over 50 farmers selling what they grow; local, certified, and organic growers with in-season produce. Actual, real farmers with abundant avocados, persimmons, apples, oranges, strawberries, peaches, and other fruits and vegetables. Farmers also sell dates, eggs, nuts, juices, honey, cheeses, sausages, plants, wool, flowers, and grass-fed meats. The market is held every Saturday at the County Complex at 325 S. Melrose Drive. Moonlight’s Concert Weekend

SpringFest concerts continue this weekend at the Moonlight Amphitheatre. American Idol’s Constantine Maroulis headlines a tribute concert to Foreigner and Journey on Friday, April 14.
