Pride Month Proclamation -At its meeting on May 23, the full City Council proclaimed the month of June as “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Pride Month” in the City of Vista. The Council approved the Pride Progressive Flag to fly at the Civic Center in June.

The purpose of Pride Month is to celebrate the LGBTQ community and honor its impact on history. Each June, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) Pride Month is observed nationwide to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall riots in Manhattan, which are seen as the start of the LGBTQ rights movement in the United States.

The display of the Progressive Pride Flag throughout the month is a recognition of the diverse community of Vista and the City’s commitment to inclusivity.

On June 3, the City participated in Pride by the Beach in downtown Oceanside. City employees volunteered their time to represent the City and provide information on its many programs and events. Pictured, left to right, are Cipriano Vargas, Community Safety Commission Commissioner and Vista Unified School District Board President, City Council Member Katie Melendez, Deputy Mayor Corinna Contreras, and City employees Erica Smith and Dolores Gascon.
