
City Council to Discuss City’s Climate Action Plan at Workshop Meeting on October 5
The City Council’s monthly workshop meeting topic will focus on the City’s Climate Action Plan when it meets on Thursday, Oct. 5, at 6 p.m. The Council will hear an update from City staff and will provide direction. The public is welcome to offer comments by attending in person or participating virtually through Zoom. Instructions for Zoom participation are on the first page the meeting’s agenda (see below).

Cannabis Equity Program Community Meeting
The City invites you to a community meeting on developing the City’s Cannabis Equity Program on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 6 p.m. at the Morris B. Vance Community Room at the Vista Civic Center.
The City of Vista is beginning to develop a local cannabis equity program designed to remove barriers to entry into the legal cannabis industry for individuals and communities impacted by cannabis prohibition and the War on Drugs. The City, in collaboration with SCI Consulting Group, has been working on drafting a Cannabis Equity Assessment that will inform the development of the City’s Cannabis Equity Program. At this community meeting, we will provide an update on the Cannabis Equity Assessment and seek your input and feedback. We want your ideas and suggestions on creating a truly equitable program responsive to our community’s needs.

Community Development Customer Service Update
The Community Development Counter at the Vista Civic Center has a new customer service option.
The Community Development staff will be available by appointment only between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Monday through Friday (except when the Civic Center is closed every other Friday).
Appointments must be made 24 hours in advance by emailing us. Customers without an appointment will be seen on a walk-in basis as of 8:30 a.m. during regular Civic Center hours.

Fire Prevention Event on October 14
The Vista Fire Department hosts its annual Fire Prevention Day event on Saturday, Oct. 14, at Fire Station #1, 175 N. Melrose Drive. Bring the whole family to learn valuable fire safety tips and meet the firefighters. This is a free event. MORE INFORMATION

Emergency Alert Testing on Wednesday
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System and Wireless Emergency Alerts on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at approximately 11:20 a.m. MORE INFORMATION


Hispanic Heritage Month Celebrated at the Civic Gallery
The vibrant artwork of artist Lori Escalera celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month and is on view now as part of the Civic Gallery exhibition “Hispanic Culture Through My Eyes, Heart, and Heritage.” The gallery is located at the Vista Civic Center and admission is free.
The public is invited to a reception with the artist on Thursday, Oct. 12, from 4 p.m.-6 p.m.

The Vista Farmers Market invites kids, tweens, and teens to sign up as a vendor at the 9th annual Kids Market on Saturday, Oct. 21. Ages 7 to 17 are invited to apply to be a vendor. Previous Kids Markets have featured a variety of items made and/or sold by kids individually and in groups. According to the Vista Farmers Market, community support has built over the nine years of the market, with most of the 4,000 shoppers in the Vista market taking time to peruse and purchase items from the Kids Market.
