Dr. Megan Johnson McCullough is a writer for TheVistaPress.com, local Personal Trainer and also a Drug and Alcohol Fitness Recovery Specialist. Based on her research she has developed the Fit PACE cell phone app for persons in addiction recovery to incorporate fitness into their comprehensive recovery treatment program. There are a multitude of benefits exercise influences for recovery and in Dr. McCullough’s belief, exercise is medicine.
Her story and passion to reach this addiction recovery community stems from the loss of her own mother to alcoholism and the trauma of finding her deceased mother on the bathroom floor. Now, Dr. McCullough feels God has put her in a position to change lives through fitness.
Fit PACE stands for Proactive Awareness Controlling Excess. It is not uncommon for persons to replace one type of addiction with another during recovery, so the app serves as a tool for creating a healthy lifestyle through fitness (but not in excess) and to track/log days sober too. Users can choose to connect with other users on the app if they want which mirrors the group meeting (AA/NA) environments. Anyone can use the app for its fitness purposes whether in recovery or not.
