Three arrested for DUI at San Marcos checkpoint

On March 18, 2022, the San Marcos Station-Traffic Division conducted a D.U.I./Driver’s License Checkpoint, in the 100 block of W. Mission Road, in the city of San Marcos.  The operation was grant funded by the Office of Traffic Safety, and deputies from mulitiple stations assisted in the event.

A total of 288 vehicles drove through the checkpoint during the hours of operation, and 232 of those vehicles were sent into the primary screening area.  There were 33 vehicles sent to the secondary screening area for further investigation.  Of those drivers, 6 were  evaluated for Driving Under the Influence (DUI), resulting in 3 DUI arrests. Seventeen citations were issued for violations of unlicensed or driving on a suspended license. One vehicle was stored pursuant to arrest.

Checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.

Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
