r Monday, January 17, 2022Monday Motivation “Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no help at all.” – Dale Carnegie In 1896, Madame Curie, (Marie Salomea Skłodowska Curie), along with her husband, Pierre, began the work that would bring her fame, the discovery of polonium and radium. She performed pioneering research on radioactivity – a term she coined. Her work took years and countless experiments in dreadful working conditions, even in the late 1800s. Between 1898 and 1902, the Curies published, jointly or separately, a total of 32 scientific papers, including one that announced that, when exposed to radium, diseased, tumor-forming cells were destroyed faster than healthy cells. For her tireless and relentless efforts, she became the first woman to receive the Nobel Prize and the only person to be awarded the Nobel Price twice! In a world so impatient that it makes instant coffee in a microwave, be calm and persistent. Impatience can cause the wise to do foolish things. Planning Meeting for 2022 This past Tuesday we had a lodge calendar planning session to schedule events into September. It was a great meeting and want to thank all the lodge members that attended. This next year is going to be exciting with many of the wonderful events you know and love, and a few new ones, too! As we move into spring, the warmer weather will allow us to use our full campus with a full array of indoor and outdoor events. Here are a couple of suggestions so you don’t miss out on the fun: Download the Vista Elks app from your phone’s App Store (if you haven’t already done so). It’s a free download and will keep you informed of last-minute changes and additions. Call the lodge office and pay your membership dues early. It will help the lodge and you will be ready to take advantage of all our activities and events for the next fiscal year. You will be happy to hear that even though inflation is growing faster than a Coronavirus on a petri dish, our membership dues are holding firm, as they have for the past few years.
