![]() Monday, August 16, 2021 Monday Motivation “Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.” – Arthur Ashe I love this quote. It eliminates excuses and focuses on today… right now. Read it again. You can thank me later. 🙂 A (Private) Word of Thanks Thanks to Phillips Reid, our current Elk of the Year, for your help on Friday afternoon. We both know how you stepped in to help last Friday and I cannot thank you enough! Hopefully, you’ll still take my calls. 🙂 Smoked Brisket BBQ Tuesday! Are you ready for this?! Tuesday night’s dinner is the ever-popular Smoked Brisket BBQ with all the sides! It will be served from 5:30-7pm, until they run out! The cost is $17 because we’re talking quality here. The bar opens at 3pm. New Friday Dinner Info Our Club Manager, Sandra Kay, asked me to forward you some information regarding our Friday night dinners: Hey there, this is Sandra Kay, your Club Manager! First, I want to thank everyone who has come to the club to enjoy our food and beverages on Friday nights. In an effort to have dinner served more smoothly, with quicker times, we will be making a few changes over the next couple of weeks. One of the first things we’re doing is removing some of the slow-selling items from the menu. The other is having a choice of either baked potato or rice with a steak. Other side items are available for a small charge. It may not seem like much but these two changes, along with adding our buffet, will streamline the kitchen operations and help things run smoother. We’re also increasing the number of Prime Ribs cooked for each Friday night to make sure we don’t run out. Reservations for Prime Rib are no longer needed since they will now be served first-come-first-served. This also includes Lobster. We definitely have some challenges trying to serve up to 150 dinners from our small kitchen that was not designed for that much traffic, especially when our guests arrive at roughly the same time. Thank you for your patience! Please Be Kind To The Helpers I would echo Sandra Kay’s remarks and add the following. At times, the frustration triggered by kitchen delays and occasional technical issues with the electronic ordering system has caused some members to address our waitresses (and sometimes greeters and bartenders) in ways that would be considered “conduct unbecoming an Elk.” Please know that our House Committee will not tolerate such behavior and will take immediate action to make sure these occasional outbursts don’t get out of hand. As you can see, your Club Manager and F&B staff, overseen by our House Committee, are doing all they can to ensure your dinner at the Lodge on Friday nights is the best experience it can possibly be. We thank you for your support and your patience. The After Party This Friday Night Our very successful After Party from last month prompted us to try it again. This Friday night will feature two great bands. Breezin’ will be playing great music with a variety of dance styles (because our ballroom dancers love it!) from 5-8pm. Our full dinner menu is available during this time. Alias, formerly Calico Ridge, and one of the most popular bands to play at our Lodge, will be playing a more contemporary selection of music from 8-11pm. A more limited selection of foods is available, along with our full bar service. It’s going to be a great night of dancing for the young and young-at-heart! Reminder: Purple Pig Races and CHEA President’s Dinner Here are two District-wide events that are worth going to; the annual Purple Pig Races and our CHEA President visitation. Our State President, Jay Larkins, and his wife Ginger will be visiting South Coast District on August 27th & 28th. One of the activities he will be attending is our Annual District Piggy Bank Races and Major Project Fundraiser Event that will take place at El Cajon Lodge on August 27, 2021, at 5:00PM. If you have never attended this yearly event then this is a must! Since this event will begin in the late afternoon, tacos will be served for dinner. The costs is $10. And there will be a great band for dancing on the patio. Chula Vista Lodge will be hosting the CHEA President’s Dinner which will begin at 5pm with “no-host cocktails,” and be followed by dinner at 6pm. The menu includes Port Wine Braised Short Ribs, Salad, Roasted Root Vegetables, Mashed Potatoes, Dessert. Vegetarian Option: Wild Mushroom Wellington. ••• The salad contains nuts! Please note any allergies. ••• The cost is $30 per person. Dress is Business Attire (Jacket & Ties). Please call our Lodge ASAP if you would like to go (760-724-1968). The deadline for letting us know is next Thursday, August 20 at 2pm. Please let us know what dinner option you would like. I will be at both events. Come join me! Have a great week, friends!ER David |
