Monday Motivation
“Success does not consist in never making mistakes but in never making the same one a second time.” — George Bernard Shaw

The most influential teacher I had was my music teacher, Mr. Lotz.  Some of us who developed a close relationship to Mr. Lotz called him “Uncle Merle.”  He was so influential in my life that my first career was in music and much of what I used in my career, I learned from him.

Uncle Merle was known for saying, “A professional musician never makes the same mistake twice.  So, circle your mistakes [when reading music].”  I developed the habit of circling every musical mistake and considered it a victory when no mistake was circled twice.

Mistakes happened.  Repeating them is a problem.

Mr. Lotz passed away a few years ago having lived into his mid-90s.  Many lessons I learned from him are with me today.  I am most grateful for his “permission” to make a mistake… once.

Bingo
Last Thursday night, the House Committee voted to move Bingo from Tuesday night to Monday night, beginning on Monday, November 1st.  Until that date, Bingo will still be played on Tuesday nights at 6pm, including tomorrow night.

Don’t worry about forgetting.  Since you get my Monday emails, I’ll keep you unformed of the change!

Tuesday Dinners
One of the reasons for the Bingo day change is that our Tuesday Dinners at the Swim Step Bar in the RV Park will be moving to the Beasley Patio on Tuesday, November 2nd.  This will allow for the use of heaters when needed during the winter, or even indoor dining during inclement weather.

Tuesday Dinners will continue at the Swim Step Bar through October.  Tomorrow night… BBQ Pork Ribs, Coleslaw, and Potato Salad.  Live music by Restless Natives.

New Year’s Eve Information
If you haven’t hear about our NYE Celebration, here are the facts:

This year, our New Year’s Eve is actually two celebrations back-to-back.  This will be the biggest event of our year and reservations are needed.

The First Celebration – 5-9pm
The first celebration will begin at 5pm for those who wish to celebrate the 9pm east coast new year.  Yes, you can stay past 9pm, if you’d like.

Dinner will include an appetizer, your choice of either Barron of Beef or Chicken Piccata, each served with side dishes, and dessert.  Dinner will be served at approximately 5:30pm starting with the appetizer portion.

The band for the first seating will be American Roots, always a Lodge favorite.  American Roots will be playing from 6pm through the east coast new year at 9pm pacific time.

The Second Celebration – 9pm to 1am
For those who plan on staying up past midnight, we’ve got one of the best dance/party bands in San Diego… Urban Gypsys!  They will be picking up where American Roots left off, taking it up a notch, and playing us into the new year!

The 9pm folks can arrive early if you’d like to dance and order a drink, or two.

Dinner for the second seating will include various items served from both our hot and cold buffets.  We will have a nice selection for you.  The buffets will be available at approximately 9:15pm to 11pm.  We’ll also be serving breakfast burritos at 12:30am.

11 O’clock Toast
At 11pm, we’ll have a brief break in the action for our very moving Elks Eleven O’clock Toast.

Early Seating Prices
$60 per person if you pay by November 30. The price changes to $65 per person on December 1.

If you RSVP for the early seating, feel free to stay after 9pm and enjoy the later band.

NOTE: 1) You are reserving seats, not a table.  There is limited space and every seat will be sold.  2) Early seating guests will not have access to the hot and cold buffets.

Late Seating Prices
$40 per person if you pay by November 30. The price changes to $45 per person on December 1.

If you RSVP for the late seating, you’re welcome to arrive before 9pm and enjoy the early band.

NOTE: 1) You are reserving seats, not a table.  There is limited space and every seat will be sold.  2) Late seating guests will have access to the hot and cold buffets at roughly 9:15pm, but bar service will be available.

Social Quarters – Overflow Seating
Our Social Quarters area will also have reserved tables, however, their view of the stages will be somewhat obscured.  Elks members not wishing to be a part of the celebration will be seated at the “bar top” or in the Game Room, as seating allows, or outside on the heated patio.  There will be no food service without a celebration ticket.

Waiting List
Once the preferred and overflow seating is sold out, the best we will be able to do is enter names on a waiting list.  Again, don’t get caught short.  Get your reservations in ASAP.

Members Only
Elk events like our New Year’s Eve celebration is for BPOElks members, their families, and guests.  If you’d like information on becoming an Elk please contact our office at 760-724-1968.

Parking
Our parking is very limited so carpooling and ride-share (Uber or Lyft) is highly recommended… especially ride-share.

RV Park
There may be an RV spot or two still available in the RV Park… maybe.

Have a great week, friends!
