Monday Motivation
“All progress takes place outside the comfort zone.” – Michael John Bobak

There’s one thing in life that I never want to be and I consistently work to avoid… being stagnant.  I would rather learn through my successes or learn through my failures, but being stagnant is the expressway to mediocrity.

The catch here is that avoiding mediocrity requires constant development and change.  I have found that most people tend to loathe change. Yet, change is needed to have progress.

As a result, I have learned that one of the keys for me to be happy is to embrace change as an opportunity to realize a better “me.”  My comfort zone is now the place where I am poised to move forward, even if I’m merely falling forward.

Thankfully, my forward movement is aided by my faith, my family, and my friends.  Along with myself, these are the reasons that I never want to settle for mediocrity.

In the end, I awaken each morning with this simple truth… my attitude is my choice.  Today, I will leave my comfort zone and gladly explore what lies ahead.

Sweetheart of the Year
Congratulations to Sharon Heyden for being crowned our newest Sweetheart of the Year!  Sharon was crowned at our Annual Sweetheart Ball last Friday night.

Our Inner Guard, Walter Pearson, escorted each Past Sweetheart of the Year onto the stage for recognition, with outgoing Sweetheart, Ann Pearson removing her tiara for the crowning.  The look on Sharon’s face gave away her total surprise when her name was called.  It was a fun night!

Non-Geek Tech Training
Do you have Gmail but can’t figure out anything but the basics? Would you like to connect your calendar to your emails or your digital notepad?  Did you know that if you have Gmail you also have a bunch of other FREE applications at your fingertips?  And it all works together on your phone, laptop, or desktop!

I’m available to meet at the lodge one day a week to provide basic training on digital devices and simplified (but in-depth) training with Google accounts like Gmail and Google apps.  By “simplified,” I mean that I won’t be using technology language (geek speech) to teach you.  I’ll use plain ol’ English.

The first class is this coming Friday at 11am.  We will meet in the Conference Room so I can show my laptop on the larger screen.  The classes will run for 45-60 minutes.  I will also be focusing on one or two items each week so to not overwhelm anyone.

Please reply to this email to RSVP or let me know in person if you would like to attend the class.

Boots & Boogie
Boots & Boogie was so well received last month that we’ll be doing it again on Friday, February 25th.

It was great seeing all the dancers in their country finery.  I loved it and even tried my hand at a little line dancing.

Our kitchen got slammed and that caused our serving times to go long but we have a solution for this month… instead of the open menu, we will have three dining options for you to choose from: Roasted Chicken, Pulled Pork Sandwiches, and Steaks.  Having three options instead of a full menu will greatly speed up the serving times.

Will we start at 4:30pm with dance lessons like we did last month.  Nitro Express will again be playing their country music from 5:30-9:30pm.  Make sure it’s on your calendar!

New Conversation Video
Have you met Adriana Ching, our new Drug Awareness Program Chairman?  She’s a really interesting lady!

We had a 45-minute conversation earlier this month and it’s available on our YouTube channel.  Just go to YouTube and search for “Vista Elks #1968” or click this link.

Tuesday Dinner
Join us for a specially made dish each week and offered at very fair prices. Restless Natives provides live music starting with an acoustic set for the first hour.

This Tuesday features BBQ pork ribs, fries, and corn on the cob. We’ll have a few extra napkins ready for you. Just $12!

Have a great week!
