“This is not a goodbye, this is a thank you.” – Nicholas Sparks
It has been said that “change is inevitable – except from a vending machine.” So too, is it with the Elks. This coming Thursday night marks the end of my two-year journey as Exalted Ruler of Vista Elks Lodge #1968, and the beginning of the same for David Slottje, a man whom I respect and have great confidence in.
ER-Elect, David has a great team of officers to help him through his year; a wonderful mix of BPOE experience, combined with new member enthusiasm. The Officer Corp includes brand new members and a Past District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler; a 40+ year member, two Elks of the Year, two Citizens of the Year, two Officers of the Year, and everything in between.
You will still see me around the lodge as I have grown to love this lodge and its members! I have agreed to be the Communication Committee Chairman for the lodge and the Public Relations Chairman for the District.
While it is my nature to look forward, not backward, when I do occasionally look back I can see milestones that have served to shape my future. My time as ER will be a significant milestone that will serve to encourage me when needed, bring joy to my heart, and a smile to my face.
As I have always tried to inspire and motivate you on Mondays with my emails, let me leave you with these thoughts written by Shannon Alder, “If you chase anything in life chase the things that get you excited about living. Chase the things that give you hope, happiness, and a glimpse of a better life. Chase the things that make you want to be a better person. Chase the things that inspire you to think, create and live joyfully. Chase the things that reinforce in your soul that you can make a difference. Chase the things that make you want to transform your heart from selfish to selfless. When you chase that kind of storm you are chasing rainbows.”
It’s been a privilege being the Exalted Ruler of Vista Elks Lodge. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to serve you, which I endeavored to do to the best of my ability. And I thank you for reading my emails!
God bless you all,
ER David Workman 2020-2022
