Willauer-Contributing Writer-Oceanside High School-Oceanside, CA-5-26-22-The Fallbrook Warriors known for their late inning rallies and heroics came back from a 2-0 deficit as they scored two runs in the 6th on RBI singles by Austin Baker and Tanyon Smith. Pinch runner Will Sherman also scored on a throwing error in the top of the 7th as they defeated the top seeded Pirates from Oceanside High School by a 3-2 score.
Pat Walker Head Baseball Coach for Fallbrook High: “We believe in ourselves. I don’t care if it’s the last out, we know that we’re going to find a way to win a ballgame. It’s been this mentality throughout the entire season. The entire Valley League was strong this year. Conference play prapred all of us to make a run in the playoffs. This is the 10th game that we’ve come back and won.”
“Mitchell Baker, one of my starting pitchers shut down Valley Center last week. He’s a senior did a great job today pounding the zone. Peyton Van Eik came in and shut the door. He had good velocity and threw strikes. They were both composed and confident.” said Coach Walker.”
“Playing Mission Bay is going to be a real test for us. They obviously have a good ballclub, but we have the magic.” said Coach Walker.
Peyton Van Eck gets the win for Fallbrook in relief as they make their 3rd championship final in school history, the first under Head Coach Pat Walker.
For the first time since 2006, the Warriors will be in the CIF Division IV Finals as they will play the Bucs of Mission Bay.
Fallbrook is 0-2 when reaching the CIF Finals. The other year was 2004.
