Fifth Grade Students Explain How to Eat Healthy

Omar Vielma, Jake Fragala, and Karla Escalante…  Eat foods that have vitamins and nutrients. Choose prepared foods that have less than5 ingredients. Eat meals at home and not at restaurants. Eat a variety of foods.

What is healthy food?

Healthy food is food that is nutritionally balanced. A lot of healthy foods have vitamin sand minerals. You should eat those healthy foods that have vitamins and minerals because then you will have all the nutrients you need and then you will be strong and healthy. Also, a lot of healthy foods have less than five ingredients. Try to eat foods that have less than five ingredients too.

How do you grow healthy food?kids food 2

Have you ever wondered how to grow healthy food? Well, to grow healthy foodyou need many different types of resources. Farmers need to know when the rainy season starts and what crops grow well together and what nutrients the crops need, because these nutrients go in the soil so the plants can grow. To plant a garden you need good soil and seeds that you can plant. Fill the garden box up halfway with soil, make a little hole in the soil in the places where you are  putting the seeds in, put the seeds in, then cover the seeds with more soil. Place the seeds far apart. Water the seeds when you are done.

How does healthy food help your body?

Healthy food can make you strong and healthy. Healthy food can help you lose weight. You might not need to take medicine if you eat healthy food. If you eat healthy you will be fit for your whole life. If you eat all five food groups you will stay healthy.

Also, eat all the colors of the rainbow. For example, eat a red apple, an orange orange, and so on.

    A big ThankYou! to the fifth grade students who shared their thoughts on how to eat healthy foods. You gave a lot of folks “food for thought” on the colors and the idea to count how many ingredients ( over your recommendation of no more than five) are in each product.

    It’s be interesting to see how many items would be put back on the store shelf if there’s more than five ingredients, and how many are kept.
