Fire Department #5 Open House Teaches Safety to Community

Fire Station #5 is located at 2009 S. Melrose Drive in South Vista.  Excited kids and parents enjoyed visiting and interacting with all of the fire department staff last Saturday.  Tours were held in the station and sleeping quarters to see where the firemen spend their time when they are not on the job.  The children enjoyed sitting in fire and medical trucks and learning safety by putting out a fire themselves.

Amanda Rigby, Deputy Mayor, was on hand to greet the parents and kids in the community.  She said, “This is one of the busiest stations that we have in San Diego County.

More importantly than that, this is the only municipal Fire Department in San Diego and the only one of 17 in the State of California, that is nationally accredited.  That means our fire department ROCKS!!”

“This is a great community event we are at today for the Open House.  We have community members from all over Vista and even Oceanside and Carlsbad, here to visit with the firemen and climb up into the trucks.  Kids are learning to practice putting out fires and stove safety in the kitchen.  This is a really great event put on by the best fire department in the State of California.  I’m glad they do this every year.  It means a lot to the community and to the City.  Thank you Vista Fire for another great Open House,” stated Amanda.

Thank you for the article about the Fire Station #5 Open House — we’re delighted to have the station and its wonderful crew this close to us. Just one small correction: the station is actually in South Vista, not Shadowridge.
    Thanks again.
