The Flying Pig Pub and Kitchen at 230 S. Santa Fe Avenue in Vista, celebrated its 1st Anniversary on Sunday, August 7, 2016.  Their actual anniversary date is Wednesday August 10th but Roger “Roddy” and Aaron Browning, wanted to celebrate during the weekend while the 27th Annual Rod Run was in full swing in Historic Downtown Vista.  Offering a special anniversary plate cooked on the patio grill, which was delicious, along with all the other  outstanding items offered everyday being served by the attentive and smiling staff.

From open to close they enjoyed a packed full house with lots of greeting, hugs, great food and beer. Did I say Food!?!  They opened at 10 am to start the day, but  normal hours are from 4-9 pm. This day from 3-5 pm they also had entertainment by singer Ashley Hollander to the delight of the crowd.

Roddy reflected back on his first year and he stated,

“In the beginning, there was a lot of emotions due to South Santa Fe not being finished and the street was partially closed due to construction, which kept customers from accessing the restaurant.  Since the road was completed the business continues to grow and we are very happy right now.”

Subscriber comment in TheVistaPress.com:

“I have been to both locations. Both are an excellent dining experience. Vista really needed a destination restaurant. There are many good restaurants in town, but none I would drive to if I lived in, say Encinitas. This place should bring in folks from all over. The menu is dy-no-mite. The staff are top notch, friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable. They can tell you what is on both menu’s (food & drink), they can also tell you where things were sourced an easy task as many items change daily. The vibe is egalitarian, bikers, beach-bums, seniors, hipsters, professionals and families. It’s a tad more expensive than I like to spend on a meal. But for the quality of the food, the prices are a bargain.”

I am new to Vista, just arriving in 2015. The ‘Flying Pig’ is one of the first places that I bring visitors to, when they come visit. It’s a great restaurant also a great place to stop in for a drink/dessert. Never disappoints, and I love the changing menu of food and craft beer to keep things interesting. Good on ya’ Flying Pig!
