La Costa Canyon 3 Rancho Bernardo 1 – In a battle of San Diego ranked high school teams that was played on LaCosta Canyon’s home field, the Mavericks at 12-3 pulled off one of the biggest wins today as they defeated the previously undefeated and top ranked Broncos of Rancho Bernardo at 14-1 by a 3-1 score.
Rancho Bernardo scored their only run in the Broncos top of the 4th as Kevin Tagushi doubled and scored on Trent Abel’s RBI single to take a 1-0 lead.
La Costa Canyon tied the game in the bottom 4th at 1-1 as Maverick Jake Woltman went 2 for 3 at the plate, hit a 2-0 slider over the fence for a home run.
The Mavericks scored 2 more runs in the bottom of the 6th as Gabe Camacho’s 2 RBI single scoring Mark Prince and Jake Woltman to making the final score 3-1 in favor of LaCosta Canyon.
