Seventh Annual Zero Waste Fair Features Education and Activities for All Ages on June 25th, 2022

Open to anyone anywhere. Living a zero or low-waste lifestyle is easier than it seems, and greatly benefits the environment along with saving you money. The Zero Waste Fair is hosted by I Love A Clean San Diego in partnership with the City of Encinitas.

What: The seventh annual Zero Waste Fair, hosted by I Love A Clean San Diego and the City of Encinitas, will create a roadmap for people interested in living a low-waste lifestyle. Open to anyone anywhere, free online registration is open now at zerowastefair.org for the in-person event.

The Fair will include:

·         Booths hosted by local sustainable businesses and non-profit organizations

·         Panel of expert speakers

·         Hands-on low waste DIYs- make them and take them home!

·         Activities for all ages and a dedicated Kids’ Corner with family-friendly activities

·         The Swap & Shop booth- take a few things for free and leave a few!

“The term zero waste can seem like an impossible mark to achieve, but it is an aspirational goal that will lead us to effectively protect our planet, eliminate harmful consumer products like single-use plastics, and conserve natural resources,” said Emily Nelson, I Love A Clean San Diego’s Senior Director of Operations. “We don’t claim to be perfect, but every little bit helps. Everybody has the power to do something.”

When: Saturday, June 25, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Where: EUSD Farm Lab, 441 Quail Gardens Dr, Encinitas, CA 92024

Why:

·         Each Californian produces an average of five pounds of trash every day.

·         If all the waste generated in San Diego County was deposited in SDCCU Stadium in Mission Valley, it would take less than three weeks to fill up and it would fill 18 more times in one year.

·         80% of ocean pollution begins through inland litter – primarily single-use plastics.

·         By 2050 it is estimated there will be more plastic pollution by weight than fish in the world’s oceans.

Who:     Expert panelists will highlight low-waste living resources on topics, including

·         Environmental initiatives and goals with the City of Encinitas

·         Composting, food recovery and water conservation with the Solana Center

·         San Diego’s new curbside organics recycling program (SB 1383) with EDCO
