Jill Sheldon Riveroll Fromm
Our mother, sister, cousin, niece, aunt and friend, Jill Sheldon Riveroll Fromm, 63, passed away on August 15, 2023, at her home in Bristow, VA.
Jill was born in Northern California but was raised in Vista. She was a proud Vista High School Class of 1979 alumni. Jill was active in ASB at VHS and served as Commissioner of Elections her senior year.
Her interest in politics only deepened over the years. Jill served in roles ranging from events director to field organizer to door knocker for Democratic congressional, governor and local candidates in Utah, Pennsylvania and Virginia. More recently, she worked as a legal secretary
for the political-law firm Perkins Coie in Washington.
Jill loved to volunteer. Whether it was raising money for causes she believed in or helping out at her sons’ schools, she was quick to serve. After the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake in San Francisco, Jill prepared and served thousands of meals. Her love of cooking eventually took her to Peter Kump’s New York School of Cooking. Jill was raised in an era where a dinner of hot dogs and macaroni and cheese was the norm, so her family was appreciative to then have such an intuitive and creative cook amongst them. She became the “go-to” person when someone had any cooking questions.
Jill’s cooking talents, along with her exceptional organizational skills, helped her find a career as a corporate event consultant and planner for firms such as Goldman Sachs and Prudential Securities in New York City.
Education was another of Jill’s pursuits. After leaving the corporate world, she graduated from the
University of Pittsburgh in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts in History with an emphasis on Holocaust studies. Jill earned her teaching certification at Robert Morris University in Moon Township, PA and became certified to teach the seven social sciences.
Jill’s pastimes included genealogy, traveling, gardening, and home decorating. She was known for her tremendous style. While she had many interests, Jill’s passion was her family. She adored her sons, John and Will, and loved being a mother. Motherhood came late to her in life, which made her long-awaited-for boys all that more special.
Jill is survived by her former husband, Charlie Fromm of Medford, OR, and their sons John Fromm of Fairfax, VA, and Will Fromm of Medford. She is also survived by her sisters, Marjie Riveroll Kennington and Kathie Kenner, both of Las Vegas; many dear cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Her parents, Eddi Smith and John Riveroll, preceded her in death as did her beloved grandmother, Elinor Riveroll.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Jill’s honor this fall in Northern California. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Prince William County, VA, chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness at https://nami-pw.org/
