Fire safety is one of my top priorities at the Board of Supervisors and I’m pleased to say earlier this week, we made a major step in protecting our County. This week, I made the motion for the Board to approve the improved vegetation clearing of 20 feet on 1,000 lane miles of County roads annually, and 34,000 defensible space investigations annually to properties and roads. 79% of the unincorporated County falls in the high to very high fire hazard severity zones. Wildfires are one of the biggest threats we face in the County. We need to do all that we can to mitigate this risk.
This will be a major step forward!
Pass The Wine 🍷
On Wednesday, I led the effort to direct our County Chief Administrative Officer, to study expanding the tiered winery ordinance as part of zoning regulations. Wineries are an important component of San Diego’s agricultural economy with approximately $37 million in gross sales!
Approved in 2010, the tiered winery ordinance allows for tasting rooms in conjunction with ongoing vineyard operations in agriculture zones, while also establishing small wineries through an administrative permit. I’ve heard from many in our community who have said they would love to see this expanded.
San Pasqual Academy
On Tuesday, The County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved extending a contract that will allow the San Pasqual Academy to remain open through June 30, 2022.
It was bittersweet as I strongly support SPA’s existing program, though I understand that due to State rules, it will no longer be allowed. I believe San Pasqual Academy is a jewel of San Diego County and will do everything I can to help our foster youth. Learn More
Party in Fallbrook
Live Oak County Park in Fallbrook is turning 101 years old, and the County and Fallbrook are holding a free day-long celebration from 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, July 17.
The celebration will feature events — live reptile and birds of prey demonstrations, a “peeps and pooches” dog walk, the planting of two large live oak trees and a sunset showing of “Toy Story 4” — and fun activities including bounce houses, face-painting, a photo booth, and climbing wall.
There will also be two food trucks with Mexican food fare and a giveaway of 100 1-gallon live oak trees grown from acorns gathered from the park. Learn More
