Just in Time for Foster Youth (JIT), a nonprofit organization dedicated to engaging a caring community to help transition-age foster youth achieve self-sufficiency and well-being, has announced four new board members to support their mission: Noemi Ashline, Slyvia Bier, Jon Strauss, and Maryam Rastegar. I’ve attached a release with more information on these individuals.
Noemi Ashline – Santaluz
Noemi Ashline was born and raised in Puerto Rico. In 1986, she moved to Boston to attend Boston College and after college, she went back to Puerto Rico for law school. In 1994, after getting married, Noemi moved to San Diego and currently resides in Santaluz. All throughout her children’s childhoods, she volunteered not only at their school, but also at different organizations, such as Children’s Hospital Auxiliary, The Nativity School PTA Board, the National Charity League, and our church. Noemi held many different positions in each organization and has been involved in chairing several fundraising events.
Slyvia Bier – Imperial Beach
Sylvia Bier received her B.A. from Colorado College and her law degree from Indiana University Maurer School of Law. She has enjoyed a 16-year career as an Employment Attorney— litigator, strategic Human Resources advisor, and business partner. Currently, Sylvia is an attorney with Microsoft’s Global Employment and Migration team. Sylvia moved from the Seattle area to San Diego when Microsoft afforded her the opportunity to work remotely. She currently resides in Imperial Beach with her husband and two teenage sons. Sylvia recently served as a Shark Tank judge at the 2021 Pathways to Financial Power conference. The staff loved working with her, and she had the opportunity to meet many members of the JIT community.
Jon Strauss – Cardiff
Jon Strauss is a Certified Financial Planner professional and the Advisory arm manager of Christopher Weil & Company, Inc., a local wealth management and financial advisory firm. He has dedicated his professional life to helping his clients and team members achieve their long-term goals. He advises clients on all areas of personal finances including retirement planning, charitable giving, tax strategy, liquid and illiquid investment management, real estate, and insurance.
Maryam Rastegar– Cardiff
Maryam has dedicated her career to children’s rights, education law, and community advocacy. A graduate from the University of San Diego School of Law, she completed with a concentration in Children’s Rights and served as president of the student-run Advocates for Children & Education. She oversaw the organization’s volunteer programs, organized fundraising events, and collaborated with community organizations, including San Diego Youth Services and the Lawyers Club of San Diego, to implement outreach programs for at-risk communities. Ms. Rastegar currently resides in Cardiff, CA and is pursuing her Certificate in Nonprofit Management from the University of San Diego.
