VISTA, CA – If last year’s award-winning production of Disney’s Tarzan the Musical is any indication, North County theatre-goers are in for another treat with Moonlight Youth Theatre’s upcoming production of Thoroughly Modern Millie, hitting Vista’s Moonlight Amphitheatre stage October 14-22. MYT is the winner of numerous National Youth Arts awards as well as the previous winner of the prestigious BRAVO San Diego Award for Best Musical (using non-paid performers – West Side Story 2012). The award, presented by the San Diego Performing Arts League in association with the readership of the San Diego Theatre Reviews recognized the best presentation efforts from the San Diego and surrounding performing arts communities.
The winner of six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie takes you back to the height of the Jazz Age in New York City, when “moderns,” including a flapper named Millie Dillmount, were bobbing their hair, raising their hemlines, entering the workforce and rewriting the rules of love.
Set in New York City in 1922, Thoroughly Modern Millie tells the story of young Millie from Kansas, who comes to New York in search of a new life for herself. Her grand plan is to find a job as a secretary for a wealthy man and then marry him. However, her plan goes completely awry. The owner of her dingy hotel kidnaps young girls to sell to the Far East, her wealthy boss is slow in proposing marriage and the man she actually falls in love with doesn’t have a dime to his name… or so he tells her. Filled with frisky flappers, dashing leading men and a dragon lady of a villainess that audiences will love to hate, Thoroughly Modern Millie is a perfectly constructed evening of madcap merriment.
“Following the success of Disney’s Tarzan, it was important for MYT to put together both anamazing cast and a visionary creative team for Thoroughly Modern Milie,” Mike Bradford, the show’s Producer noted. “With cast members from all over San Diego learning from a creative team filled with Moonlight Alumni, this show is destined to be a hit.”
Thoroughly Modern Millie is directed by Sarah Errington, with Musical Direction by Lyndon Pugeda and Choreography by Danny Hansen. The public is encouraged to bring a picnic dinner and enjoy an evening under the stars. The Moonlight Amphitheatre gates open at 6:30 p.m.
Performances begin at 7:30 p.m.
