Carlsbad, CA—New Village Arts (NVA), North County’s cultural hub, is ending their twentyfirst season, and their first season in the new Dea Hurston New Village Arts Center in Carlsbad, with one of the most beloved and popular movie musicals of all time, SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN.
Directed by AJ Knox, previews are May 12 to 19 with performances May 20 to July 2 at the Conrad Prebys Theatre in Carlsbad. “I am thrilled to be returning to New Village Arts to direct SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN,” said director AJ Knox, who previously directed LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, MURDER FOR TWO, and AVENUE Q for NVA. “We had originally planned for this show back in 2020, and after three
long years, it’s finally here.”
Faithfully and lovingly adapted by Broadway legends Betty Comden and Adolph Green from their original award-winning screenplay, each unforgettable scene, song, and dance from the movie is accounted for, including the show stopping title number. Fans of the movie and the musical can expect a new twist on this musical and dance classic in this ensemble production as conceived by Knox and the team at New Village Arts. “SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN is one of my all-time favorite films. I see it as a love letter to movies and theatre, and I cannot wait to share our unique approach to this production,” said Knox.
The cast includes Anthony Vacio as Don Lockwood, Emma Nossal as Kathy Selden, and Xavier Bush as Cosmo Brown. All three make their mainstage NVA debut’s with SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN. Also featured in the cast are Kiara Hudlin as RF Simpson, Nick Siljander as Roscoe Dexter, and Audrey Eytchison-Ward as Lina Lamont. The Ensemble members are Kaia Bulger, Jonathon Canada, Marcy Ledvinka, Olivia Pence, Cara Tafolla and Kylie Young. Canada, Bulger and Pence will also be understudies and Joseph Prete is the understudy swing.
