David A. Willauer-Contributing Writer – The Wildcats from El Camino High School conclude their season at 7-6 as they were defeated by the Helix Highlanders in the semi final round of the Divisioin I CIF Section Football Tournament by a 28-17 score.
Mackavelli Malotumau scored on a 3 yarder and teammate Kiah Reid 13 carries for 44 yards scored on a 2 yard run and passed for 13 carries for 27 attempts for 144 yards. Tate Reid 6 receptions for 73 yards. Sam Souza connected on a 34 yard field goal. Zee Eatmon 10 carries for 97 yards

Carlsbad Lancers Suffers First Loss In CIF Open Section Title Game

Escondido High School-Escondido CA: The Carlsbad Lancers have been eliminated from the CIF Open Championship Section Tournament after they led 6-0 on quarterback Julian Sayin’s 65 yard pass to wide receiver Matt Moore with the PAT blocked.

Cathedral Catholic came back to go ahead 28-6 on the amazing speed of Lucky Sutton as he rushed for 257 yards and scored on 3 touchdown runs of 4, 78 and 88 yards. 

The Lancers scored 2 more touchdowns as quarterback Julian Sayin threw for 233 yards along with 2 more touchdown passes of 1 yard to Barrett Brooks and scored on a 1 yard run.

Carlsbad Lancers Head Football Coach Thadd MacNeill:  “I felt that after our first lead of 6-0, Cathedral Catholic came out and outplayed us as our defense had a hard time stopping Lucky Sutton.”  “Julian Sayin played well for us on his first pass which was called a Bubble that is where our Julian Sayin threw a pass on the outside of the lines for our first score.”  “On his second pass, Julian looked for Barrett Brooks.”  “His third touchdown was a run is where he tried to fake to the slotback as he ran the offensive line did well.”
