Environmental Education * Habitat Protection * Species Propagation Join us to hear Gary’s inspirational story and about his nonprofit Planet Rehab. Please register in advance for this free online event HERE

North County Climate Change program : PLANET REHAB is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the planet’s ecosystems, propagating endangered species, and providing education on the current challenges that our planet faces. The Earth is under siege – threats to fragile ecosystems are everywhere. We are currently losing approximately 150-200 species of plants and animals every single day! We have managed to speed up the natural extinction rate by about 1,000 percent! It is time to heal the Earth – and we need your help!

About the speaker: A longtime Animal and Nature lover, Gary founded Planet Rehab in 2002 as a result of learning how compromised the environment had become. In his professional career Gary was the Sustainability Director for Metro Services where he worked to improve the sustainability of fortune 500 companies including Disney, NBC, Blue Shield, Google, MGM & MTV to name a few. Concurrently he worked with Mayor Gavin Newsom’s Sustainability Team to help make San Francisco one of the most environmentally friendly cities in the world.

As Director of Planet Rehab, Gary has had the opportunity to provide environmental presentations to Universities, Schools, Churches, Civic Organizations, Service Clubs and more with the goal of inspiring people to better care for the environment. Planet Rehab was the first organization in CA to be part of the Worldwide “Hands Across the Sand” ocean protection movement and together with his husband, Carlo Rios, he has hosted numerous Beach Cleanups, Earth Day Festivals, Original Environmental Musicals and Plant-based Food Festivals. As part of their goal to protect animals, Planet Rehab opened an Animal Sanctuary that cared for over 350 animals.

In Oct 2019 Planet Rehab took a decidedly different direction and relocated to a stunning 30- acre Jungle Property in Bocas del Toro, Panama to better focus on habitat preservation and species protection. Reforestation, Coral Restoration, Pollinator Population Development and Amphibian Relocation are some of the key issues that Planet Rehab is currently focusing on and is thrilled to be hosting Environmental Expeditions to allow volunteer participation. Gary remains deeply committed to protecting the environment and enjoys the opportunity to provide daily educational tours of the beautiful rainforest that he calls home.
