David Willauer- Contributing Writer-Simcox Field at John Carroll Stadium-Oceanside High School-Oceanside, CA-Friday August 25, 2023:  After suffering a winless 0-10 season in 2022 a change was made at historic Oceanside High School and Fale Poumele was named the new head football coach, last week the Pirates were defeated by San Juan Capistrano from San Juan Hills by a 31-10 score.

After going 0-10 in 2022 and 0-1 this season, things went in a different direction after trailing 3-0 on Britain Kowalchek’s 38 yard field goal at the half.

The second half was a different tune as Pirates qb Andrew Miller threw 2 touchdown passes of 29 and 20 yards to put Oceanside up 13-3.

The Pirate defense came on as Jayden Pulu recovered a Santa Fe Christian fumble in the end zone along with a 2 point safety to make the final score 22-3 in favor of Oceanside as head coach.

Fale Poumele head football coach at Oceanside:  “In the first half we had trouble moving the ball offensively our defense didn’t step up to the task, but in the second half our defense stepped up at the right time making the key plays.”  I was very impressed with Andrew Miller’s 2 touchdown passes to which was key for us which led us to our first win under me.”
