A MOVIE SERIES HOSTED BY PROFESSOR GARRETT CHAFFIN-QUIRAY

Oceanside, CA -Join the Oceanside Public Library and Professor Garrett Chaffin-Quiray for the movie series: America Now. The Library is currently hosting a film screening series that speaks to the contemporary experience of living in America through the various lenses of those who make up this country. Professor Chaffin-Quiray, a Professor of Cinema Studies at Palomar Community College, presents each screening by exploring the artistic and sociological character of the films and leads an interactive discussion following the screening. This program is not just for students of film, but for anyone who enjoys a good movie and would like to learn about how a movie can reflect the place and time that it is made.

The series takes place on the fourth Wednesday of the month, March and April 2024, at 6:00 p.m., in the Mission Branch Library Community Room, at 3861 Mission Avenue. The films and dates are as follows:

  • Enough Said, 2013, PG-13, on March 27
  • Arrival, 2016, PG-13, on April 24, 2024.

Professor Garrett Chaffin-Quiray teaches Cinema Studies at Palomar Community College and has written two books: Cine-Me (2012) and Under the Tent-Pole: A Primer on Movies: Blockbusters, Oscar Winners, Alternatives, and You (2014). No registration is required. Visit America Now, A Movie Series for more information and to sign up to receive a reminder for the program series.

This free event series is sponsored by the Friends of the Oceanside Public Library.
