Oceanside, CA – The Oceanside Public Library invites teens, ages 14-17, interested in social justice and wanting to make an impact in your community, to join the Youth Engagement & Leadership Project. Through this project, teen participants will gain leadership skills, learn about the Library, and create their own Library service around a social justice topic for the community.

The Youth Engagement & Leadership Project consists of a six-session leadership and programming training series, which runs Wednesdays, February 28 to April 3, 2024, 4:30-6:00 p.m. The initial three sessions, February 28, March 6 and March 13, will be centered on leadership with Synergy In-Power-Meant and will be held online. The last three sessions, March 20, March 27 and April 3, will be centered on programming development and will be held at the Civic Center Library, 330 N Coast Hwy. The training series will culminate in teen participants creating a Library program or service for the community in April or May 2024.

Teens can apply for the Youth Engagement & Leadership Project through February 2, at https://bit.ly/47MdchL. Teen participants will earn community service hours for attending training and will receive a stipend after implementing the Library program or service. For questions or additional information, please contact jjenkins@oceansideca.org.

The Youth Engagement & Leadership Project is supported in whole or in part by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered in California by the State Librarian, and the Friends of the Oceanside Public Library.

Oceanside Public Library aims to empower the community by promoting literacy, information access, civic engagement, cultural inclusiveness and openness to new ideas.
