Operation HOPE Anniversary Edition

Vista, CA –On a warm summer day in August of 2016, and with much anticipation, Operation HOPE-North County opened its doors full time, offering ongoing support and services 365 days a year. The limits of a winter shelter program were lifted, and we forged ahead confidently, knowing that we would be able to help many more adults and children in our community. We are now celebrating four successive years of uninterrupted services!
From our humble beginnings in a rented warehouse, our mission was clear – to serve the growing numbers of families who were without shelter during the coldest months of the year. In partnership with the City of Vista, a group of local community leaders formed Operation H.O.P.E. (Homeless Outreach Providing Encouragement), a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping this most vulnerable population.
Every winter, from 2003 through 2015, our program provided a safe haven and supportive services to help parents, children, and single women find a pathway to an independent future. Along the way we dreamed of having a permanent facility and expanding our services. Then, in 2012, an opportunity to purchase property from Vista Community Clinic, alongside a successful capitol campaign, made our dreams a reality. We finally had a place to call our own, complete with private sleeping rooms, an inviting courtyard and playground and much more. Our welcoming campus was, and is today, a safe refuge for families and a place where children can laugh, learn and play with one another.
Operation HOPE-North County continued as a winter shelter in its new location with broad based community support until 2015 when a major donor encouraged us to go year-round. We took the challenge, and since August 1, 2016, our doors have not closed. Our program has expanded to provide increasingly comprehensive services and opportunities for both adults and children.
We have sheltered well over 2,000 individuals since our beginning in 2003, and look forward to helping many more. Together with your partnership we will meet the challenges along the way and celebrate each and every person’s journey toward independence. Thank you.
