MARINE CORPS RECRUIT DEPOT SAN DIEGO, CA. (Sept., 2021) — The Marine Corps Recruit Depot All-Stars softball team is scheduled to play the San Diego Padres Alumni Sept. 15, at Beeson Field aboard MCRD San Diego.
The first pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. with notable Padres Alumni participants to include Trevor Hoffman, Steve Finley, Carlos Hernandez, Nick Hundley, Mark Loretta, Randy Jones and many more. The MCRD team will be comprised of 21 Marines, Sailors, Coast Guardsmen and Department of Defense civilians stationed at the base.
Each team will be led by an Honorary Manager with the Padres Alumni being managed by former big leaguer and Padres hitting coach, Merv Rettenmund. The MCRD All-Stars will be managed by Mike Magro, USMC Master Sergeant (Retired) and captained by Master Sergeants Jim Quintero and Chris Nieves. Padres public address announcer Alex Miniak will also be on-hand to provide live play-by-play commentary of the game. Service members on base, along with their families, will be treated to food, kids’ activities, ticket giveaways, live entertainment and a meet and greet with members of the Padres Alumni team.
The event is closed to the public and only open to MCRD personnel and their families.
