San Marcos, CA (February, 2024) — Down 3-1 in the eighth inning, the Palomar College Comet baseball team scored four runs in a come-from-behind win against LA Valley College to win the nonconference game 5-3.

Starting pitcher Ryan Herrod pitched seven solid innings where he allowed three runs on nine hits and struck out five batters. Nathaniel Helton collected his first decision of the season after going one inning and striking out two batters. Lucas Smith was given the save when he struck out the side to secure the win.

The Comets got one run back in the seventh inning when Patrick McLellan grounded out the third baseman for an RBI. In the eighth, Colby Rafail had a two-RBI ground out before Noah Lazuka doubled for an RBI to tie the game at three. Makana Olaso traded places with Lazuka to give the Comets the lead and then Anthony Pacino scored on a wild pitch for the game’s final run.

Palomar moves to 4-3 on the season and will face Orange Coast College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
