Palomar Performing Arts continues its 2022/23 Season with the Production of the Groundbreaking Musical Rent.
Palomar Performing Arts will present Rent with book, music and lyrics by Jonathan Larson running March 10 – 19, 2023 in the Howard Brubeck Theatre on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, at 7:00 p.m., Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

Experience Jonathan Larson’s iconic Pulitzer Prize-winning musical that shaped a generation of audiences and taught us all to measure our life in love. Based loosely on Puccini’s La Boheme, Rent follows a year in the life of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York’s Lower East Side, under the shadow of gentrification and HIV/AIDS. How these young bohemians negotiate their dreams, loves and conflicts provides the narrative thread to this heart wrenching yet inspiring and uplifting musical that has captured the hearts of audience of many generations.
This production of Rent will be directed by Michael Mufson, with choreography by Molly Faulkner, and music direction by Lyndon Pugeda.
Director Michael Mufson said, “I’m thrilled to be directing Rent as it continues to be profoundly relevant in the face of today’s social conditions and political climate. As we encounter a rising houseless crisis, anti-gay and trans rhetoric and disproportionate health impact of the pandemic, Rent reminds us to see the humanity in all individuals and embrace the all-encompassing love that can heal our physical and mental pain.”
He went on to say, “Rent also explores the complexity of making art that challenges injustice and the toll it takes on the individual artist.”
