By Winter Sierra….Friday evening, September 19, Rancho Buena Vista High School’s varsity field hockey team played against Escondido High at RBV’s home turf. Rancho’s team has had a strong season this year, and won their previous game. From the start of Friday’s game, Rancho’s girls seemed to dominate the field. Scarcely were players found to be on RBV’s defensive end, and by the halfway point in the game, the score was 3 RBV to 0 Escondido. Despite their lead, Rancho’s players didn’t lessen their determination during the second half, and left the final score 5 Rancho to 0 Escondido. The final goal of the evening was made by RBV Junior Kailani Carney, playing her second year on the school’s varsity field hockey team.
When asked about her team’s game and season, RBV Junior Cheyanne Elton said “by the end of the game it doesn’t matter who scored. What matters is that we worked together to get the job done, win the game and play the sport we love.”
Both the fans and players of the year alike agree they’ve put together a great, cohesive team this year. RBV’s field hockey community hopes for the opportunity to play in CIF this year! With eager players and confident fans, field hockey games may have less people to the bleachers than some sports, they don’t have any less spirit!
