San Marcos Hike
Join us for the Discovery Hills hike. Explore the geographical features of the Discovery Hills region on this moderate ‘figure eight’ 4.75-mile hike. Participants will hike Discovery Creek, Cima Loop, Lakeview, Rancho Tesoro and Twin Oaks Valley
Road trails.
Meeting Location: Lakeview Park, 650 Foxhall Drive, San Marcos 92078 , Saturday, August 6 | Sign-in starts at 7:30 a.m. with hike beginning at 8 a.m.

Junior Ranger Day
Learn what it takes to be a Junior Ranger! Your child will earn a badge through interactive, hands-on activities about local plants and animals, nature, conservation, trail safety and more!

Family Night Pick-up
Family Night activities bring families together while participating in arts & crafts and assorted projects. Crafts/activities are intended for children ages three to ten. Each $5 Jeweled Sun Catchers On-The-Go kit contains one craft or activity. If multiple children would like to participate, parents must pre-register each child individually.

National Senior Citizen Day Luau

Star Walk XVIII
Enjoy a night under the stars and learn basic astronomy concepts at a beginner’s level. Locate and understand featured celestial/astronomical events. Locate and identify common Constellations and Asterisms.
What is the Autumn Equinox; Where are the Planets and the Moon; Summer and Northern Constellations; Perseid Meteor Shower.
Recommended Equipment:
LED flashlight with red filter or red lens cover, Binoculars, Warm clothes, Blanket and/or ground cloth.

Lap Swim
Memberships are available for purchase or drop-in for an intense workout or easy fitness. Pool is heated and outdoors. Please bring your own equipment.
Aqua Aerobics
MahrKay will guide you through a warm-up and progressive core workouts with & without supplied equipment, finishing with a cool down time. The class is all about encouragement and motivation blended with body toning, balance and strength-building for healthy life goals.

Recreation Scholarships Available!
The Friends of San Marcos Parks & Recreation have donated $5,000 this for recreation scholarships! These scholarships are available through the City of San Marcos Parks & Recreation and are contingent upon meeting certain financial eligibility requirements. To learn more and to apply visit

Park Shelter Reservations Available
The City has 21 designated reservable park picnic shelters at 12 different City parks that may be reserved to host your next celebration. A reservation must be made for groups of 25 people or more and groups who wish to have a inflatable or pony/petting zoo. Groups under 25 people can still make a reservation or choose to use the park on a first come first serve basis.
Reservable park picnic shelters can be reserved online a minimum of 8 days in advance and at the Parks and Recreation office 4 days in advance of your desired date. Reservations are paid in full at the time of booking.
