Activities & Events

San Marcos Hike

San Elijo Hills South Tour

Moderate to Strenuous: This short but challenging, 3.5-mile hike will start at San Elijo Hills Park and take in a circle tour of the south San Elijo Hills area. Trails to be explored will include the Copper Creek, Garden, Wild Canyon and Make-A-Wish trails. Expect 760’ of elevation gain.

Saturday, December 2 • Sign-in starts at 8:30 a.m. with hike beginning at 9 a.m. • FREE

Tree Lighting & Vendor Market

Join us at our annual Tree Lighting event complete with free festive crafts and activities, as well as vendors selling their wares and snacks. Entertainment will be featured in the courtyard. Don’t miss the ‘snow’ right after the tree lighting!

Family Night Pick-Up

No-Bake Cinnamon Ornaments

Mix ground cinnamon, applesauce and glue to make no-bake ornaments! Make them to hang at home or give as gifts.

Family Night activities bring families together. Crafts/activities are intended for children ages three to ten. Each On-The-Go kit contains one craft or activity. Adjust quantity when registering for each child participating. REGISTER HERE

Star Walk XXVI

Enjoy a night under the stars and learn basic astronomy concepts at a beginner’s level. Locate and understand featured celestial/astronomical events. Locate and identify common Constellations and Asterisms.

Very active Geminids and Ursid Meteor Showers; Autumn and Winter Constellations and Asterisms; Most of the Planets are visible; where is Venus and Mercury? What is a Winter Solstice? New Moon/ Crescent Moon.

Recommended Equipment:

LED flashlight with red filter or red lens cover, Binoculars, Warm clothes, Blanket and/or ground cloth.

San Marcos Aquatics

Aqua Aerobics

Hosted in-house by our certified Water Safety Instructors. Come and enjoy a guided warm-up, motivational cardio workout exercises followed by a cool down and stretch. This is a gentle class geared towards facilitating a healthy, active lifestyle. Beginners welcome, equipment provided.

Dates: Saturday & Sunday Time: 7:30-8:15 a.m. | 8:30-9:15 a.m. | 9:30-10:15 a.m. – Fee: $6 drop-in fee only

Open Recreation Swim

Open Recreation Swim is for individuals or families to enjoy the pool and swim.

Please visit www.san-marcos.net/watersafety for a list of pool rules. Pool heated to 84°F. Please note: if the projected high temperature for the day is below 60°F, or there is thunder and lightning, open Rec Swim will be cancelled that day. We will remain open during rain.

Location: Las Posas Pool Dates: Monday-Thursday Time: 4:30-7:30 p.m. Fee: $4 drop-in fee or included with Splash Pass.

Location: Las Posas Park Pool

Dates: Saturday-Sunday Time: 12-4 p.m. Fee: $4 drop-in fee or included with Splash Pass.

Splash Pass Membership – Purchase a Splash Pass membership for year-round access, or pay a drop-in fee for an intense or easy workout. Pool is heated and outdoors. Please bring your own equipment.

Recreation Scholarships Available!

The Friends of San Marcos Parks & Recreation have donated $10,000 this for recreation scholarships! These scholarships are available through the City of San Marcos Parks & Recreation and are contingent upon meeting certain financial eligibility requirements. Park Shelter Reservations Available

The City has 22 designated reservable park picnic shelters at 13 different City parks that may be reserved to host your next celebration. A reservation must be made for groups of 25 people or more and groups who wish to have a inflatable or pony/petting zoo. Groups under 25 people can still make a reservation or choose to use the park on a first come first serve basis.

Reservable park picnic shelters can be reserved online a minimum of 8 days in advance and at the Parks and Recreation office 4 days in advance of your desired date. Reservations are paid in full at the time of booking.
