Governor Newsom signed Senate Bill 1342 which authorizes counties to create a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) to allow aging service provider agencies to share information to address the needs of older adults. Senator Patricia Bates (R – Laguna Niguel) issued the following statement:
“California’s aging services are fractured by an arbitrary division of expertise and programs which creates gaps and inefficiencies within the services. With SB 1342 now signed into law, these agencies can work together to fill in the gaps and coordinate services among each other to holistically address the needs of older adults. Aging service provider agencies will be more efficient in developing coordinated case plans, improving service delivery, and providing support to the caregivers.
SB 1342 will replace a longstanding reactive approach to older adult care coordination with a new proactive one that offers comprehensive and collaborative strategies to delivering aging services. Thank you to the bill’s sponsor, the County of Orange, for its continued support on this important issue. I look forward to seeing California’s older adults receive the care they deserve.”
