VISTA COUNCIL CANDIDATE FORUM

Thursday, September 29 — 7 p.m  Shadowridge Country Club

Presented by Shadowridge Owners Association and South Vista Communities Come meet all the candidates for Vista City Council, bring your questions.

HELP WANTED ! South Vista Communities, a voluntary organization, was established to preserve and improve the quality of life for South Vista residents. We are in need of some extra help for several projects and hope one of you will feel a spark of interest to join our board and assist our work.

  •  Social Media Director As you know, so much of the news now is moving through Social Media including Twitter, Facebook, and App/websites like Nextdoor. We would like to make SVC much more visible and available to more people, as much is changing rapidly in South Vista.
  • If you are adept at Social Media and would like to lend your expertise to SVC, we would love to hear from you!
  • Airplane Overflight Issue Manager Have the airplane overflights to and from Palomar-McClellan airport the last few years been driving you nuts? Have you called in complaints, to no avail? SVC is looking for someone whose quality of life is being disturbed by these flights and who is willing to continue our work with the airport and the FAA – please let us hear from you! southvistacommunities@cox.net

Together, we make a difference !

  • Speaking of the airport and the FAA . . . The Draft Environmental Assessmemt for the SoCal Metroplex project was released and made available for public Review and comment beginning on Wednesday, June 10, 2015.
  •     The public comment period ended on Thursday, October 8, 2015, and many of us submitted comments.

The purpose of the Metroplex project is to “improve the efficiency of airspace in the Southern California Metroplex by optimizing aircraft arrival and departure procedures at Palomar-McClellan Airport” — which, to those of us living in South Vista, means increasing numbers of planes using the new NextGen technology to approach the airport more directly: over our houses.

The official statement, released 9/2/16, says: “The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued a Finding of No Significant Impact and Record of Decision (FONSIsvairplane-ROD) for the Southern California Metroplex (SoCal Metroplex) Project. This is the FAA’s final decision, and it enables the agency to move forward with implementing the project, which will replace dozens of existing conventional air traffic control procedures with new satellite-based procedures. The FONSI-ROD and Final Environmental Assessment documents are available here.”

More information can be found at: http:// www.metroplexenvironmental.com/socal.metroplex/ socal_introduction.html The response essentially skirts the environmental issues many of us raised by saying that the EA was not meant to assess impacts prior to the implementation of Metroplex. The response also declares that the FAA is not responsible in any way for any overflight noise issues — that’s all dealt with by the various airports. Uh-huh.

NEW WEBSITE FEATURE South Vista Communities’ members will be receiving our annual membership notices soon, and we hope you will want to continue to support our efforts to preserve and maintain the quality of life we enjoy in South Vista. An Extra Added Attraction on SVC’s website is a button you can click to make your donation online — no envelope, no stamp, simple and easy. On SVC’s home page, click on the Donation link, and on that page you will find the donate button.
