There are a lot of wonderful people making North County a special place. I wanted to highlight a few of them today!
First, I want to give a BIG shoutout to the “Rising Star of the Year” students. They were honored by the Vista Chamber of Commerce last Friday for their outstanding work in the classroom and around our community!
Also, they were awarded a $1,000 scholarship!
- Esmeralda Ortiz – Vista Visions Academy
Sarina Schulthess – Vista High School
Noah Bailey – Trade Tech High School
Nyla Lopez – Rancho Buena Vista High School
Olivia Song – Mission Vista High School
Rebekah Christoffersen – Major General Raymond Murray High School
- Alyssa Crevoiserat – Guajome Park Academy
Are you a microbusiness in need of some help? Applications for Round 2 of funding are now open thru June 24th.
The grants (up to $2,500) are for small businesses, with less than 5 employees, which earn less than $50k and haven’t previously received state relief.
Thank You, Nurses!
We all know how difficult the past two years have been, but they’ve been especially challenging for our medical workers. Last week, I was able to thank our nurses during Nurse Appreciation Day at the County!
Our nurses are angels to so many and the backbone of our healthcare system. We cannot thank you enough for tirelessly working around the clock to protect people and save lives.
On Saturday night, I was honored to be the keynote speaker for Pima Medical’s Institutes Graduation! Over 150 students graduated with certificates in Dental Assistant, Medical Assistant, Veterinary Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, and Health Care Admin Certificate, as well as Associate Degrees in Physical Therapy Assistant, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Veterinary Technician, and Respiratory Therapist.
Typically, a graduation speech has some words of wisdom and a thought or two about persevering. However, what these kids have had to deal with over the past two years, virtual learning, stopping, starting and not being able to see friends/family, they have already overcome so much!
I believe in our future because I believe in the people like those at Pima! Congratulations to all of you for graduating!
Peace Officer Memorial Day
On Sunday night, the County Administration Building was lit blue for National Peace Officers Memorial Day.
Our peace officers include the San Diego Sheriff’s Department, Probation Officers, District Attorney Investigators, Public Assistance Investigators, and Animal Services Officers.
Thank you for all that you do to protect us and make our community a safer place.
Great Job, Law Enforcement
Last week, our Sheriff’s personnel in partnership with Homeland Security Investigations and other federal law enforcement agencies found a tunnel, stash houses and removed 2,000 pounds of meth and 900 kilos of cocaine from our community.
