Where has the year gone? I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I wanted to give you an update on some of the happenings going on in North County and a few groups we have honored at our Board meetings.

I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday season!

Pancreatic Cancer

I honored the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network by promoting and proclaiming “World Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day” on Nov. 17th. This is a cancer that unfortunately has affected my family. I lost my brother a few years ago to this terrible disease.

Also, on November 17, the San Diego County Administration building was illuminated purple to remind the community about early detection resources and to remember those who have passed away.

Oceanside Rising Stars

I want to give a BIG shoutout to the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce Rising Stars!

  • Surfside Educational Academy, Vaeh Dunn
  • Oceanside High School, Julia Metzger
  • El Camino High School, Joseph Molano
  • Coastal Academy, Noe Hernandez

Keep up the great work!

Honoring the Rincon Band of Luiseño Indians

At our last Board of Supervisors meeting, I had the privilege of honoring the Rincon Band of Luiseño Indians. November is National Native American Heritage Month and The Rincon Band of Luiseño Indians, is one of the many sovereign governments in San Diego County with ancestors dating back to over 10,000 years.

We honor them and all our tribes for their past and present in making our community a better place!

It’s Toys for Tots time again across San Diego County. One of the best feelings anyone can get during the holiday season is when you put a smile on someone else’s face—especially when it’s on the face of a child.

Drop off a new, unwrapped toy in one of the annual Toys for Tots donation boxes between now and Dec. 10 at one of five County airports: McClellan Palomar Airport in Carlsbad, Gillespie Field in El Cajon, Fallbrook Airpark in Fallbrook, Ramona Airport in Ramona and Borrego Valley Airport in Borrego Springs.
