As a proud US Navy Veteran, my deep care for our veterans and the military community stems from the invaluable lessons I learned during my four years of service. It’s the Navy that first brought me to San Diego County, and, like so many of our Veterans, I stayed and now call it home. Veteran’s Day holds a special place in my heart, serving as a time for reflection on the principle that resonates profoundly with me – the power of synergy.

In the military, collaboration and teamwork take precedence, emphasizing a collective approach to accomplishing missions. It’s about “us” rather than “me”. This spirit is fundamental as to why our nation stands as a beacon of excellence. We prioritize taking care of one another and never leaving anyone behind.

It’s an honor to advocate for our veteran community. I take pride in the multitude of resources available in San Diego County. Our County is home to numerous non-profits supporting veterans and their families in diverse and comprehensive ways. Should you seek support, my office is always open, and you can reach out via email at Jim.Desmond@sdcounty.ca.gov or by calling (619) 531-5555.

Furthermore, here are essential resources available for veterans:

County’s Office of Military and Veteran’s Affairs:

Website: San Diego County Veterans Services

Phone: 858-694-3222 or 1-866-726-8831

Email: sdcvso.hhsa@sdcounty.ca.gov

County’s Behavioral Health Services:

For mental health support, the County offers an array of services accessible to eligible veterans. To seek treatment, individuals can contact the Access and Crisis Line at 888-724-7240, operating 24/7 and free of charge.

Courage to Call:

This resource provides peer support, outreach, and guidance to veterans and their families. They offer a peer-staffed hotline accessible at (858) 636-3604 or by dialing 2-1-1.

This community is committed to standing together and supporting each other. I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to serve you and our veteran community. Thank you for your service and dedication.
