Get Out and Vote!
We are so lucky to live in the best country in the world. A country that allows us the freedom to choose what we want to do, what we want to say, and who we want to elect to office. With that freedom, comes responsibility and it is our responsibility to vote in our elections.
On November 8th, you will have the opportunity to choose who you want to represent you in a wide variety of positions. I just want to encourage you to do your American duty and vote.
Early voting is already underway at the Registrar’s office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. You can also vote from the comfort of your home and return your voted ballot through the mail – no postage needed – or to any of the Registrar’s official ballot drop box locations around the county through Election Day. Remember to sign and date your return ballot envelope. Your signature is required for your vote to count.
You can choose to vote in person at any vote center. Starting Saturday, Oct. 29, 39 vote centers will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Then starting Saturday, Nov. 5, over 200 vote centers will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
All vote center locations and the Registrar’s office will be open on Election Day, Nov. 8, when voting hours change to 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
You can find a complete list of the Registrar’s official ballot drop box and vote center locations inside your voter information pamphlet or at sdvote.com.
Protecting Our Students
School safety is imperative and I was thrilled to see the community coming together in Valley Center/Pauma.
Here’s a great story from KPBS on the Raptor Management system, which will scan all visitors through the Megan’s Law database to ensure no violators are on campus.

Honoring the San Marcos Fire Department
Living in San Diego County, the threat of a wildfire is constant. I’m always amazed by the bravery of firefighters who protect our community. With all of their gear on, in usually scorching temperatures, they run towards the fire, while we all evacuate.
The month of October is Fire Prevention Month and we celebrate and honor all our San Diego firefighters and first responders. At this week’s Board meeting, I had the privilege of honoring the San Marcos Fire Department!
As the former mayor of San Marcos, I’ve worked closely with them and am proud of all the work they do to protect our community. Earlier this year, the SMFD earned a Class 1 ISO (Insurance Service Office) rating which not only is the highest/best rating, but it also reflects the City’s commitment to public safety. Congratulations!
Out in Borrego Springs
One of my favorite parts of being a County Supervisor is going out to all the different communities and meeting the people who make our region so special.

This past weekend, I was out in Borrego Springs for their Borrego Days Desert Festival. I love going out there and seeing all of the beauty from the mountains to their Dark Sky. On Sunday morning, I got a little time away from work and went on a beautiful walk with my beautiful wife, Kerri!
