Thank you to everyone who attended the Sexually Violent Predator Town Hall. The goal of the meeting was to explain the placement process for SVP’s and with that knowledge, be equipped to stop them in the future.
My biggest takeaway was we need to get the word out to everyone when a placement hearing is scheduled. I will be sending out notices as soon as we hear another SVP could potentially be placed in San Diego. The State of California only gives us a 30-day notice, but during that time the public is allowed to send emails, write letters, and depending on the judge, attend the hearing.
We have been successful at stopping four out of five SVP’s in North County during my time as Supervisor. It’s because of everyone rallying together and speaking out. We must keep doing this to protect our neighborhoods!
