MEET CARISSA!

What’s your story? Share a bit about your background, the work you’re interested in, and how you got to NVA!

“Hi everyone! I’m Carissa, and I’m ecstatic to be a marketing intern at New Village Arts! I’m currently a student at Palomar College, and then I’ll soon be transferring to a school in Prague, Czechia to live and study there for three years while getting my Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and Communications. I’m so thankful for my good friend Kevin (go check him out in the Holly Jolly Cabaret!) for sharing this internship opportunity with me! NVA has been so incredibly welcoming! I’ve been here for a few weeks and it already feels like family!”

How are you involved in the theater community?

“I’ve always loved the magic of live theatre, whether as a performer or audience member. I’ve also performed at Legoland as a princess, actor, host, and character performer! My career goal is to go into marketing/outreach in theatre companies, so I’m so happy to have this opportunity to work on my marketing skills in theatre.”

What are your priorities, as an artist and as a human?

“One of my biggest priorities has been amplifying voices of BIPOC and LGBTQ+ artists and people in general. They’ve been silenced for far too long, and it’s time we do something about it and use our voices to support them in any way we can. I’m also prioritizing my happiness and taking control of my life to create the reality I want to live in.”

You’ve been given an elephant. You can’t give it away or sell it. What do you do with your elephant?

“I’m a huge animal lover, so if I was randomly given an elephant, I would 100% keep it as a pet, but in an ethical way so it’s happy and well-taken care of!”

MEET RUBY!

What’s your story? Share a bit about your background, the work you’re interested in, and how you got to NVA!

“Hi! My name is Ruby and I am one of the new marketing interns for NVA!I grew up in Los Angeles in a small apartment with my 6 other siblings and two hard working immigrant parents. Growing up in a rough area and not the best funded schools, I would have never imagined being where I am today. I am a full-time student attending CSUSM, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. I was introduced to the opportunity of being a part of NVA by my marketing professor and I am ecstatic to learn and experience many things with everyone!”

How are you involved in the theater community?

“Although I have no experience working in the theater community, I found a great interest in entertainment. I  fell in love with the idea of creating a community through live entertainment after attending my first music festival.”

What are your priorities, as an artist and as a human?

“If I had to pick what my top priority is, it would definitely be being successful in whatever I put myself to do. Specifically,I prioritize great quality work and success because I want to show my parents that I can defy all the odds set against me as a first generation student and American.”

You’ve been given an elephant. You can’t give it away or sell it. What do you do with your elephant?

“If I was given an elephant, I would move to a tropical foreign country to raise it and start a new life with my new best friend. :)”

MEET ANDREA!

What’s your story? Share a bit about your background, the work you’re interested in, and how you got to NVA!

“I’m a San Diego State University alumni, class of 2020! Raised just across the border in the city of Tijuana, MX. I’ve been an artistic intern at the San Diego REP’s Latinx New Play Festival for 2 years and now I’m excited to join NVA’s amazing team and work to empower the youth voices in our community!”

How are you involved in the theater community?

“I’m a freelance stage manager during the day and an avid theatregoer by night! I’ve also dabbled in theatre criticism and set painting and construction.”

What are your priorities, as an artist and as a human?

“I’ve always been interested in being an activist through the art that I do, advocating for the visibility of BIPOC voices everywhere I go.”

You’ve been given an elephant. You can’t give it away or sell it. What do you do with your elephant?

“I’d probably gift said elephant to my little cousin, she wants to be a vet and I’m sure she’d be thrilled!”
