That’s The Sound of Marines Fighting In Combat

Huh ah, huh ah, huh ah
I hear them clearly in my memories
Huh ah, huh ah, Uh ah, uh ah
Well don’t you know
That’s the sound of Marines
Going into harm’s way
That’s the sound of grunts on patrol
All day long they’re saying, huh ah
Huh ah, uh ah, uh ah
Well don’t you know
That’s the sound of America’s warriors
fighting around the world
That’s the sound of patriots
putting their lives on the line for our freedom
All day long they work so hard
Till the sun is going down and into the night
fighting atop freezing mountains, in thick jungles and on burning desert sand
And wearing, wearing a frown
You hear them moaning their lives away
Then you hear somebody say; huh ah, huh ah
That’s the sound of Marines
Serving their country
That’s the sound of patriots
Fighting their country’s battles

Can’t you hear them singing, mmm, huh hah
I’m going home one of these days huh hah
I’m going home, see my family, huh hah
Whom I love so dear
But meanwhile, I gotta’ fight right here, huh hah
Well don’t you know
That’s the sound of warriors
That’s the sound of patriots
Fighting in combat
All day long they’re singing in my memories,
mm huh ah, my, my, my, my, my,
My, my, my mission is so hard. huh ah
Gimme water, I’m thirsty, my, I can’t fail my mission, huh ah
Woah oh, y, my, my, my, my, my, my, my mission is so hard
Don’t ask them if they’re up to the task
They are lean, mean fighting machines called combat Marines
And when times get tough and people think they’ve had enough,
You can hear them say, huh ah, huh ah,
Then they reach down deep into their core for a little more.

Do You Know The Way to Camp San Onofre

Do you know the way to Camp San Onofre?
I’ve been away on deployment for too long
I may go wrong and lose my way
Do you know the way to Camp San Onofre
I’m going back to recover at Camp San Onofre
Afghanistan is a great big mess

Shoot a thousand bullets and blow up a dozen cars
In a month, maybe two, you’ll be a YouTube star
Weeks turn into months, how quick they pass
And America’s best weren’t destined to last.
I can really breathe in Camp San Onofre
They got a lot of space and a beachfront cottage where I can stay
I was a happy young Marine when I was at Camp San Onofre
I’m going back to find some peace of mind in Camp San Onofre
Duty and honor is a magnet
It can pull you far away from home
With patriotism in your heart you’re never alone
Reality turn dreams into dust and they blow away
And there you are surrounded by enemies with only a few friends
I get on the plane amid the chaos and fly away
I’ve got a few Marine friends in Camp San Onofre
Do you know the way to Camp San Onofre?
The Middle East is a great big battle that never ends
Put several hundred thousand American troops in the area
Weeks turn into 20 years, how quick they pass
The body count adds up and the real heroes are the ones that never came home
Brokenhearted and mentally ill combat veterans are living on the streets
Maybe someday I’ll join their ranks… with no regrets and expecting no thanks
In the meantime I need to breathe in Camp San Onofre
And hopefully find some peace of mind
So if you will be so kind
To tell me the way to Camp San Onofre, I’ll be on my way.

In The Year 2024

In the year 2024 evil and corruption is everywhere
Washington DC has become the new Devil’s lair
People are so sensitive they think everything is unfair
If they can’t mitigate or pontificate then they litigate
In the year 2024
Everything you think, do and say is on the internet today
You can’t tell the difference between the truth and a lie
Because the media wants it that way
They know some people are too lazy, ignorance and politically
correct to verify or question why
In the year 2024,
Inflation has become part of your life and adds to your daily strife
The government tells you not to believe your eyes, just their lies
Congress passes legislation and regulation to criminalize free speech
Even though they know it is a First Amendment breach
In the Year 2024
Your arms hang loosely at your side
Your legs got nothing to do
You’ve been working remotely since 2022
And a productive day for you
Is staying in bed and watching Morning Joe and the View
In the year 2024
You won’t even think about joining the military
Patriotism has become a thing of the past
Liberty doesn’t come free, but let someone else pay the fee
You’ve got better thing to do like watching YouTube videos

In the Year 2024
God might just say it’s time for the Judgement Day
America was founded on Judeo Christian values
A country cannot survive without law and order and a secure border
He’ll shake his mighty head and say
I’m not pleased where man is at this time
I’m going to tear it down and start again
In the year 2024
I’m kinda wonderin’ if humanity can survive
If man and woman will be still alive
It shouldn’t be that complicated to me and you
If it doesn’t make sense then it’s generally not true.
And trust is earned, not given
In the year 2024
The government is trillions in debt
Has no concept what fiscal responsibility means
Spends money recklessly with total disregard
Corrupt politicians’ reign is through
But through the eternal night
The twinkling of starlight
The answer is not far away
All we can do is hope and pray
In the year 2025
And if we still have a country
We’ll get back on the path to decency and prosperity
Because the recipe for happiness is in our hearts not in Washington DC

Wow, although a very different Sunday story by Mr. Thomas Calabrese in the Vista Press it certainly is a clear one. About a young man or woman, summoned and answered their countries call. Young and eager to do his/her duty for their country. Innocent and naive willing and wanting to go forth to protect Americans, regardless of ethnicity, religion, etc. The scene rapidly changes after the first shot in battle is fired. The young man/lady ages and he or she will never be the same, some will not come home upright and some will come home maimed. While others will carry battle scars not visible to the naked eye.
Mr. Calabrese is without a doubt one of those that has seen what many have never seen and carries the memory embedded in mind. Each and everyday he is still protecting Americans from evil and horrors of war. Thank you, Mr. Calabrese.

This is a total departure from your norm…and it is GREAT! Marvelous lyrical adaptations to some great songs. Chesty would be proud of you glorifying his Grunts this way. BZ!!
