October News & Updates
October begins a season full of celebrations. Join us for our Kids Night Out Celebration Thursday, October 20th from 5:30 – 8:30 pm. Club kids are counting on adult volunteers to step up and participate in the event. You and your special Club member will get an inside look at our Club and the positive work that we do. By sponsoring a Club member, the two of you will experience a fun night out at the Club, enjoy a special dinner together, and create some wonderful memories for a lucky Club member.

Program Spotlight-SMART Moves
Jose and Raul with the second grade Smart Moves group.
We are currently offering SMART Moves Wellness at our Main Site, Madison Middle School, and Vista Magnet Middle School.

This is a national Boys & Girls Club curriculum that helps kids develop foundational social-emotional skills. By participating in this program, members will be able to build a personal toolbox for self-management and coping. We look forward to seeing our members taking what they learn here at Club and applying it at home and school.

In 2021 the US Surgeon General, Vivek Murthy, issued an advisory on the youth mental health cirsis stating, “Mental health challenges in children, adolescents, and young adults are real and widespread. Even before the pandemic, an alarming number of young people struggled with feelings of helplessness, depression, and thoughts of suicide — and rates have increased over the past decade.”

Volunteer Spotlight – Watkins Wellness
Last month we had a fantastic afternoon with the team from Watkins Wellness. Led by Giselle Rodriguez, 5 total employees came to do Yoga with our Kinder and 1st graders outside. It was a really nice way to transition to after school programs and ended with an ice cream treat for our Club members.

In addition to the time Watkins Wellness spends volunteering at our Club, they awarded us a $25,000 grant to fund our Youth Development Programs. We are incredibly grateful for the ongoing support.

We are always looking for local businesses to partner with us. If you are interested in learning more please contact Susan Arias, Vice President of Development at susan@bgcvista.com or (760) 295-5967.

We now accept donations of CryptoCurrency!
We are excited to announce that we can now accept donations of cryptocurrency through The Giving Block. This is one more way you can support Great Futures at the Boys & GIrls Club of Vista. Your donation of Crypto is automatically converted into cash for the Club.

Donating cryptocurrency is a non-taxable event. Donors do not owe capital gains tax on the appreciated crypto that is donated and can typically deduct the fair market value of the donation on their taxes. This often makes Bitcoin, Ethereum and other cryptocurrency donations one of the most tax efficient ways to support your favorite cause. Talk to a crypto-savvy tax professional or connect with The Giving Block to get connected with one. If you want to learn more about how donating crypto can lower your taxes, check out thegivingblock.com/faq.
