Pala Vista Park Update Please be aware of possible delays beginning Thursday, January 19 through Friday, January 27 as the City’s contractor will begin Civic Center Drive widening work as part of the Pala Vista Park project. The northbound #2 lane is anticipated to be temporarily closed throughout the morning and will reopen in the afternoon. The schedule is subject to change depending on weather conditions. READ MORE
Santa Fe Senior Village Approved as the City’s First Permanent Supportive Housing Development
Last week, the City Council approved the first permanent supportive housing development in Vista. The Santa Fe Senior Village development will be located at 414 and 428 N. Santa Fe Avenue. The project will provide 54 units of high-quality affordable housing serving extremely low and very low-income seniors. The development includes 27 units for senior experiencing homelessness with two units set aside for veterans experiencing homelessness, and 27 units will serve extremely low and low-income seniors. Onsite wraparound supportive services for those experiencing homelessness will be fully integrated into the development. The Santa Fe Senior Village will break ground for construction in March 2023 and is expected to be completed by September 2024. READ MORE

Sheriff’s Helicopter Announcements Call or text “Hello” to (858) 866-HELO (4356) to receive helicopter messages straight to your phone. Sheriff’s ASTREA (helicopter) uses a loudspeaker when searching for a missing person or suspect. Announcements are also made during critical incidents such as a SWAT standoff, disasters, crowd management events or to give people a shelter in place notification. SDG&E Provides One-Time Financial Assistance to Those Having Financial Hardship The assistance will be disbursed through the Neighbor-to-Neighbor program, which provides up to $300 in one-time grants to help offset past-due bills for SDG&E customers who need help paying bills and aren’t eligible for the federally funded Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program. To apply, dial 2-1-1. Customers will be directed to community-based organizations collaborating with SDG&E on the program. SDG&E validates customer eligibility and applies funds as credits to customers’ accounts to offset overdue bills. READ MORE

Kites Over Vista Call to Artists The City’s Public Arts Commission seeks artists to participate in its 2023 Kites Over Vista exhibition. The submission deadline is Friday, February 10 at 4:30 p.m. Six kite sculptures will be selected by the Commission for approval by the City Council. Artificial Turf Replacement at Vista Sports Park The artificial turf fields are being replaced which requires the soccer and football fields to be closed to the public starting Tuesday, January 17, for approximately 90 working days. The trail at the park will also be inaccessible. The playground and the restrooms will remain open throughout the project.
