The Vista Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire at 9:48 AM on May 18, 2016.  Reports from golfers on the Shadowridge Country Club golf course stated smoke from the eaves of the home.  A fire truck arrived on scene at 9:55 and reported smoke from the roof.  The firefighters made access to the home and were able to contain the fire to the living room where the fire started.  There was extensive smoke damage throughout the home.

During the primary search a firefighter found a dog under a bed and removed the dog to the outside where he was cared for by neighbors until the resident returned.  The dog was unharmed by the fire.

The San Marcos and Carlsbad Fire Departments assisted with the fire.  The fire was brought under control by 10:10.  22 firefighters were on scene.

Three adults and child were displaced by the fire and the American Red Cross was contacted to assist the renters with lodging and other essential needs.

The cause of the fire is under investigation as well as a determination on the amount of damage to the structure.
