On August 5, 2015 at 12:40 pm the Vista Fire Department responded to a vegetation on west bound SR78 a half mile east of Sycamore Ave.  The first units on scene reported a half acre fire spreading uphill towards home on Green Meadow Way.  SDSO Deputies evacuated residents from approximately 5 homes on Green Meadow Way and Plumosa Avenue.

Personnel from the Vista, San Marcos, Cal Fire and Carlsbad fire departments contained the fire within an hour.  There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.  A wooden fence behind a house was damaged by the fire but there was no damage to homes.

The cause of the fire was determined to a vehicle malfunction resulting in heated material landing in the vegetation along SR78.  The fire burned approximately 2 acres.

The defensible space provided between the homes and the fire assisted firefighters and decreased the potential for property damage.
