Vista, CA -Knowledge is power in health education and Vista Community Clinic wants to make sure local communities are empowered when it comes to understanding HIV prevention. PreExposure prophylaxis (known as “PrEP”) is one groundbreaking method gaining traction in the fight against HIV. As our community strives for comprehensive health awareness, it’s important to spread awareness on what PrEP is, its significance, and how VCC can connect patients to it.

Proper usage of PrEP involves the consistent use of antiretroviral medications, either by daily oral medications or by injection a few times a year. Eligible patients include those individuals who are at higher risk of contracting HIV. The medication is designed to stop the virus from becoming an infection, by preventing the virus from replicating if a person is exposed to HIV. PrEP, when taken correctly, is highly effective at significantly reducing the risk of HIV. When individuals at risk are protecting themselves from the threat of HIV infection, they are also contributing to broader efforts to curb the HIV epidemic.

At VCC, accessible healthcare solutions that meet the needs of the community is top priority. The healthcare center’s clinical and outreach teams are committed to promoting health and wellness, and to extending the offer of support and resources for any individuals interested in PrEP. Through VCC’s comprehensive services, the goal is to make PrEP readily available and easily accessible to those who can benefit from it. VCC also offers PEP (Post Exposure Prophylaxis) for individuals that have been exposed to HIV, within a 72 hour window. PEP works in a similar manner by using antiretroviral medications to significantly reduce the chances of acquiring HIV.

The experienced healthcare clinicians at VCC are well-versed in PrEP/PEP, and can provide personalized care and assistance throughout your journey. From initial consultations to ongoing support, the VCC team can help you make informed decisions about your health.
