San Marcos Hike

Leo Carrillo Ranch and Simmons Family Park Hike

This challenging 5-mile hike to Simmons Family Park will give hikers the opportunity to explore the trails of the Rancho Dorado/Rancho Carrillo area and make a brief visit to Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park. There will be 645’ of elevation gain. This hike is rated moderate to strenuous.

Please note: DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED AT LEO CARRILLO RANCH HISTORIC PARK!

Saturday, October 7 • Sign-in starts at 7:30 a.m. with hike beginning at 8 a.m. • Free

Family Night Craft Pick-up

Monster Visors

Turn a foam visor into a monster cap! Use googly eyes, pipe cleaners, foam stickers, and faux fur to create a Halloween monster masterpiece.

Family Night activities bring families together. Crafts/activities are intended for children ages three to ten. Each On-The-Go kit contains one craft or activity. Adjust quantity when registering for each child participating. REGISTER HERE

Star Walk XXV

Enjoy a night under the stars and learn basic astronomy concepts at a beginner’s level. Locate and understand featured celestial/astronomical events. Locate and identify common Constellations and Asterisms.

New Moon; October’s Lunar and Annular Solar Eclipses; Orionids Meteor Shower; Comets and Asteroids; Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and the other Planets; A celestial Triangle and other asterisms; Late Summer and Fall (plus Circumpolar) Constellations.

Recommended Equipment:

LED flashlight with red filter or red lens cover, Binoculars, Warm clothes, Blanket and/or ground cloth.

San Marcos Aquatics

CPR/First Aid/AED

Receive an American Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED Certification valid for two years.

Location: Las Posas Park Pool

Days: First Saturday of every month – Time: 8 a.m.-12 p.m.

Fee: $50 per course

Aqua Aerobics

Hosted in-house by our certified Water Safety Instructors. Come and enjoy a guided warm-up, motivational cardio workout exercises followed by a cool down and stretch. This is a gentle class geared towards facilitating a healthy, active lifestyle. Beginners welcome, equipment provided.

Location: Las Posas Park Pool

Dates: Saturday & Sunday Time: 7:30-8:15 a.m. | 8:30-9:15 a.m. | 9:30-10:15 a.m. Fee: $6 drop-in fee only

Lap Swim Morning Hours ExtendedLocation: Las Posas Park Pool

Dates: Monday-Thursday Time: 6:30-10:30 a.m.

Fee: $4 drop-in fee or included with Splash Pass.

Location: Los Posas Pool & Woodland Park Pool

Dates: Saturday-Sunday Time: 6:30-10:30 a.m.

Fee: $4 drop-in fee or included with Splash Pass.

Open Recreation Swim – Open Recreation Swim is for individuals or families to enjoy the pool and swim. Please visit

www.san-marcos.net/watersafety for a list of pool rules. Pool heated to 84°F.

Please note: if the projected high temperature for the day is below 60°F, or there is thunder and lightning, open Rec Swim will be cancelled that day. We will remain open during rain.

Splash Pass Membership – Purchase a Splash Pass membership for year-round access, or pay a drop-in fee for an intense or easy workout. Pool is heated and outdoors. Please bring your own equipment. Purchase Splash Pass

Cabana Rentals – Cabana rentals are offered between 12-3 p.m. at Woodland Park Pool Saturday & Sunday through the end of October. Reserve a Cabana

Recreation Scholarships Available!

The Friends of San Marcos Parks & Recreation have donated $10,000 this for recreation scholarships! These scholarships are available through the City of San Marcos Parks & Recreation and are contingent upon meeting certain financial eligibility requirements. Park Shelter Reservations Available

The City has 22 designated reservable park picnic shelters at 13 different City parks that may be reserved to host your next celebration. A reservation must be made for groups of 25 people or more and groups who wish to have a inflatable or pony/petting zoo. Groups under 25 people can still make a reservation or choose to use the park on a first come first serve basis.

Reservable park picnic shelters can be reserved online a minimum of 8 days in advance and at the Parks and Recreation office 4 days in advance of your desired date. Reservations are paid in full at the time of booking.   For more information, please visit www.san-marcos.net/reserveapark or call the office at 760-744-9000.
