San Marcos Hike

Santa Fe Valley Trail

Moderate: This short but challenging 4.5-mile hike will explore the Santa Fe Valley Trail, itself a segment of the classic Coast to Crest Trail, as it winds southwest through The Crosby Open Space Preserve. Hikers will be treated to peek-a-boo views of the San Dieguito River. There will be some steep switchbacks with a total elevation gain of 535.’

Saturday, January 6 • Sign-in starts at 8:30 a.m. with hike beginning at 9 a.m. • Free

SDRP Parking Lot. From Del Dios Highway west of I-15, turn south at The Paradise Produce Market (formerly “The Lemon Twist Stand”) 8175 Del Dios Hywy, Rancho Santa Fe, 92067. Proceed to park at the Trailhead.

Star Walk XXVII

Enjoy a night under the stars and learn basic astronomy concepts at a beginner’s level. Locate and understand featured celestial/astronomical events. Locate and identify common Constellations and Asterisms.

Quadrantids Meteor Shower is still around; Waxing Crescent Moon is in a conjunction with Saturn; Bring Binoculars to see Gas Giants Jupiter, Saturn; Uranus, Neptune; Brilliant Winter Constellations/Asterisms; Where are other planets?

Recommended Equipment:

LED flashlight with red filter or red lens cover, Binoculars, Warm clothes, Blanket and/or ground cloth.

Get crafty and tie together your very own fleece scarf. Use different colored and patterned fabrics to make it one-of-a-kind! No sewing or gluing is required for this project.

Aqua Aerobics

Hosted in-house by our certified Water Safety Instructors. Come and enjoy a guided warm-up, motivational cardio workout exercises followed by a cool down and stretch. This is a gentle class geared towards facilitating a healthy, active lifestyle. Beginners welcome, equipment provided.

Time: 8-8:45 a.m. & 9-9:45 a.m.

Fee: $6 drop-in fee only

Lap Swim Morning Hours Extended

Open Recreation Swim

Open Recreation Swim is for individuals or families to enjoy the pool and swim. Please visit

www.san-marcos.net/watersafety for a list of pool rules. Pool heated to 84°F.

Please note: if the projected high temperature for the day is below 60°F, or there is thunder and lightning, open Rec Swim will be cancelled that day. We will remain open during rain.

Splash Pass Membership

Purchase a Splash Pass membership for year-round access, or pay a drop-in fee for an intense or easy workout. Pool is heated and outdoors. Please bring your own equipment.

Recreation Scholarships Available!

The Friends of San Marcos Parks & Recreation have donated $10,000 this for recreation scholarships! These scholarships are available through the City of San Marcos Parks & Recreation and are contingent upon meeting certain financial eligibility requirements. Park Shelter Reservations Available

The City has 22 designated reservable park picnic shelters at 13 different City parks that may be reserved to host your next celebration. A reservation must be made for groups of 25 people or more and groups who wish to have a inflatable or pony/petting zoo. Groups under 25 people can still make a reservation or choose to use the park on a first come first serve basis.

Reservable park picnic shelters can be reserved online a minimum of 8 days in advance and at the Parks and Recreation office 4 days in advance of your desired date. Reservations are paid in full at the time of booking.   For more information, please visit www.san-marcos.net/reserveapark or call the office at 760-744-9000.
